The Evening Receptionist/Housekeeper provides reception and housekeeping services for the Mt. Pleasant Center, including limited clerical services, and actively promotes a positive image for the college district.
- Learn, apply, and role-model SCC policies and procedures related to job responsibilities.
- Assist the Director of AEL in creating documents and procedures to manage AEL data collection from instructors.
- Data entry and maintain records related to enrolling and exiting AEL students in appropriate classes, test scores, grades, and credentials earned.
- Function as the back-up for the AEL/HSED Records Specialist, as needed, including, but not limited to: prepare reports, employment contracts, and other documents; and prepare purchase orders and supply requisitions.
- Assist the Director of AEL in writing grants for AEL funding.
- Assist the Director of AEL and HSED Chief Examiner in planning, preparing, and organizing HSED graduation ceremonies.
- Perform responsibilities with a high level of personal and professional integrity.
- Project a knowledgeable and positive image when greeting visitors and responding to inquiries.
- Stay informed about scheduled activities to direct inquiries to appropriate program supervisor.
- Properly route inquiries.
- Serve as lost and found center.
- Provide clerical services to Mt. Pleasant Center staff and adjunct instructors, as needed.
- Administer and proctor tests, including exams for credit classes and standardized assessments that require certification and/or state approval, including but not limited to, SCC placement exams, state-approved assessments for AEL enrollment and high school equivalency diploma (HSED), and Certified Nurse Assistant.
- Assist the Centers Supervisor with planning and scheduling activities in the Center and related outreach efforts.
- Know or be able to learn and use SCC databases.
- Serve as contact person regarding vending machine services.
- Handle and receipt payments as needed.
- Maintain a shared calendar for appointments and reserved rooms. Update room schedules and necessary files for evening classes as needed.
- Coordinate with Facilities Department to replenish supplies and conduct building maintenance.
- Facility maintenance and housekeeping duties as follows:
- Sweep, mop (wet or dust), scrub, and vacuum floors using cleaning solutions, tools, and equipment.
- Empty pencil sharpeners, clean/dust furniture, white boards, mantels, etc.
- Dispose of refuse, clean refuse containers and reline with plastic liners.
- Clean bathrooms and replace disposables, such as paper towels, soap, and toilet paper.
- Complete reports on maintenance problems that may might need attention.
- Clean up trash from walkways and grounds and assist in keeping walkways and steps in safe and usable condition during winter weather.
- Follow safety procedures and have regard for the safety of others.
- Help secure or open buildings.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Associate’s Degree preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required. - Experience:
- Compatible work experience required.
- Experience in office administration, proctoring tests, preparing reports, and working with confidential information, preferred.
- Knowledge of proper office conduct and procedures, telephone procedures, English grammar and punctuation, Microsoft Office, general cleaning and housekeeping procedures, and follow work/safety regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including telephone etiquette appropriate for a professional workplace.
- Knowledge of computer software applications with specific competency in Microsoft Office suite of programs; ability to learn and develop competency in SCC’s administrative software (Ellucian) and AEL’s record-keeping system (Tops Pro Enterprise).
- Skill in keyboarding, routine filing procedures, verbal and written communications, and general housekeeping procedures.
- Ability:
- Work effectively, cooperatively, and cordially with people of diverse background and needs.
- Maintain a professional, courteous, and positive demeanor while dealing with varied situations.
- Learn policies and procedures.
- Follow directions and complete tasks in a timely manner despite frequent interruptions.
- Operate office equipment, including telephone, computer, photocopier, and Fax machine.

- Relate well to students, colleagues, and general public.
- Handle financial transactions, as needed.
- Work without close supervision.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Twist, stoop/bend, squat, kneel, crawl, climb ladders/stairs, lift/carry and push/pull, as needed.
- Operate housekeeping equipment, use cleaning/disinfecting agents, identify tasks that need to be done, and exercise initiative.
- Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to occasionally lift 25 lbs.
- Mobility and ability to performed assigned duties.
- Ability to twist, stoop/bend, squat, kneel, crawl, climb ladders/stairs, lift/carry and push/pull, as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
