Job Description

This position is eligible for a $3,000 recruitment bonus. Current state employees are not eligible for recruitment payments upon transfer, demotion, or promotion to another agency.

Location:

Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility – a minimum custody, male facility housing approximately 1,150 incarcerated individuals. Our goal is to offer treatment, work, education, and apprenticeship opportunities to prepare them for reintegration into their communities.

• Primary PM Shift – 3:30 PM to 11:30 PM. Can provide relief on night shift (11 PM–9 AM). Weekend/Holiday rotation and days off as assigned.
• Full‑time PM Shift – Weekend/Holiday rotation and days off as assigned.
• Full‑time Night Shift – 11 PM to 9 AM. Weekend/Holiday rotation and days off as assigned.

The registered nurse demonstrates high integrity, nursing values, ethical principles, and moral practices, and practices professional nursing consistently and within the scope of the Iowa Board of Nursing Practice Act. The registered nurse has an active nursing license in good standing from the Iowa Board of Nursing.

• Manage client health care to ensure a safe and secure environment for both clients and staff while promoting positive change in client behavior.
• Apply knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice.
• Maintain current knowledge of medications, their actions, and uses.
• Adhere to quality standards, procedures, and protocols.
• Provide specialized client care applicable to the work situation.
• Teach and oversee client care provided by assistive staff.
• Provide empathetic assistance to clients in meeting their needs and carrying out prescribed treatments.
• Collect data objectively and record information accurately.

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator’s Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
