Position: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR/ADMISSIONS

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Admissions is responsible for the promotion and marketing of Central Michigan University within the continental United States in a defined travel territory. The role includes attending college fairs, professional conferences, community partnership events, alumni activities, and serving as a liaison between the university and high school and community college officials. The position involves providing academic, career, and admissions advice, representing the university at public speaking engagements, assisting in daily office operations, and occasionally representing international, graduate, and global admissions.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One year of experience in marketing, sales, public relations, higher education, or student‑related professions
  • Experience working with a diverse student population, including low socio‑economic, multicultural, and non‑traditional students
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willingness and ability to travel independently and work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Working knowledge of computer applications and industry‑related systems
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience presenting to the public in large venues or forums
  • Experience maintaining data, report writing, and evaluating high school or college transcripts
  • Experience sharing university policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Meet enrollment goals for a defined travel territory
  • Represent CMU at statewide and national recruiting events
  • Coordinate campus recruitment programs for prospective freshmen and transfer students
  • Plan and arrange onsite visits, campus tours, and individual visitor appointments with high schools and community colleges
  • Assist colleges with admissions presentations and campus tours
  • Participate in recruitment campaigns via email, social media, and media outlets (newspaper, magazine, radio, television)
  • Review undergraduate admission applications, respond to information requests, and determine admission status
  • Plan, organize, and implement receptions for prospective students and guests
  • Provide information about academic programs, career options, housing, financial aid, and transfer credit evaluation
  • Represent graduate, international, and global/online admissions as an ad‑hoc recruiter
  • Work with alumni to promote CMU
  • Supervise volunteers, student employees, office interns, and graduate assistants as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
