The Instructor/Coordinator Trainee participates in a structured student–teacher model, supporting EMS education through supervised instruction, skills facilitation, and learner engagement while progressing toward Instructor/Coordinator licensure. The trainee operates under the direct oversight of a licensed Instructor/Coordinator and advances through defined competency‑based phases prior to independent instructional responsibility.
Essential Duties- Deliver assigned instructional content under supervision of a licensed Instructor/Coordinator
- Assist in facilitation of psychomotor skills labs and simulation‑based training
- Support student learning through guided instruction, remediation, and engagement
- Participate in student evaluation processes as directed
- Maintain readiness and organization of classroom, lab, and simulation resources
- Prepare assigned instructional materials in alignment with program standards
- Engage in structured feedback, coaching, and performance improvement processes
- Attend required meetings, training sessions, and development activities
- Support program operations and student success initiatives
- Contribute to recruitment and outreach efforts as requested
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the role
- Must attend mandatory meetings
- Prior instructional or preceptor experience preferred
- Progress toward or completion of a Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Instructor certifications (BLS Instructor or higher) preferred
- Familiarity with EMS education standards, accreditation requirements, and state regulations
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Current State of Michigan licensure as an EMT or Paramedic
- Minimum of three (3) years of active EMS experience at or above the level of instruction
- Minimum of one (1) year of service with the organization (internal candidates) or equivalent experience (external candidates)
- In good standing with the organization
- Valid Michigan driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Current provider status in BLS, ACLS, and PALS or PEARS (as applicable to program level)
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written formats
- Demonstrated professionalism and ability to work in a team environment
- Must attend mandatory meetings
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must serve as an effective role model for students and subordinates
- Outstanding public speaking skills
- Applicants who are not licensed as an instructor/coordinator must obtain licensure as an instructor/coordinator within 6 months of hire, or 45 calendar days from the completion of the approved instructor/coordinator course, whichever occurs first
- Progress toward licensure will be monitored throughout employment. Failure to demonstrate satisfactory progress or obtain licensure within the required timeframe may result in removal from the trainee role, reassignment, or termination of employment. MMR will pay for the trainee’s initial I/C course and license. However, if the trainee requires several attempts to successfully complete the course, within the 6-month window, the trainee is solely responsible for the cost of any additional courses beyond the first course completed and paid for by MMR.
If the trainee fails to successfully obtain an I/C license with the State allowed 3 attempts, the trainee is no longer eligible to remain in the position. Taking a state‑approved refresher course isn't an option to remain in the trainee position, even if it is within the first six months of hire. The organization reserves the right to modify timelines based on operational needs, candidate performance, or program availability - Internal candidate must serve in the education division for 2 years after licensing as an I/C
Suitable dexterity to operate standard office equipment. Capability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, stoop, reach and squat.
Working ConditionsMost work is done in a typical office setting with daily exposure in all other department areas.
