Position Summary
The assistant director of military and veteran relations supports strategic goals aligned to military personnel recruitment into CMU academic programs and is responsible for CMU’s physical presence on base at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The assistant director will also provide support for CMU students enrolled in the Command and General Staff College (CSGC) program and online students located on base. This position will actively participate in outreach and engagement initiatives, including travel, aimed at forming partnerships, bolstering military recruitment, and creating awareness of CMU educational opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree.
- Three years experience related to the responsibilities of the position.
- Demonstrated experience initiating outreach for purposes of promotion and cultivating relationships with the military.
- Demonstrated experience providing customer or client service.
- Ability to project a positive and professional image.
- Demonstrated and exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated skillset in presenting to varied audiences across multiple platforms.
- Ability to work autonomously and in support of strategic mission/objectives.
- Ability to travel nationwide.
- Advanced degree in a related field and/or experience serving in a military capacity through armed services.
- Demonstrated experience working with adults and post-traditional students in higher education.
- Familiarity with educational opportunities for military personnel.
- Familiarity of military recruitment.
- Serves as a sole presence over daily operational management of CMU’s site located at Fort Leavenworth, KS.
- Provides first point-of-contact services to military personnel related to educational programming and inquiries; serves as a liaison to connect students with key university resources.
- Provides on-site student support services to individuals participating in the Command and General Staff College, Master of Science in Administration coursework.
- Supports military recruitment by attending ed fairs, expos, conferences, and virtual events nationwide.
- Provides on-site student support services, including test proctoring, to individuals on base who are pursuing online graduate and undergraduate or transfer degree programs.
- Maintains an understanding and awareness of CMU’s educational programming opportunities available for prospective and active duty military personnel, veterans, and family members.
- Cultivates relationships and partnerships by engaging/networking with community and corporate constituents.
- Ensures areas of focus align with institutional and program goals and expectations with attention to outcomes.
- Collaborates with internal and external partners in support of a full portfolio of student resources and services.
- Utilizes university systems to compile and analyze appropriate data to monitor, measure, and report outcomes.
- Ensures compliance and adherence of established university policies and procedures including those specific to the Fort Leavenworth military base.
- Serves as School Certifying Official for VA education benefits.
- Assists in identifying and coordinating necessary changes with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate program information and requirements are displayed in print, digital, and online formats as applicable.
