Position: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR/ADMISSIONS

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Admissions is responsible for promoting and marketing Central Michigan University within the continental United States in a defined travel territory. The role includes attending college fairs, professional conferences, community‑partnership events, and alumni activities; acting as a liaison between the University and high school & community college officials; providing academic, career, and admissions advice; representing the University at public speaking engagements;

and assisting in the daily operation of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The position also represents international, graduate, and global admissions as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in marketing, sales, public relations, higher education, or student‑related professions
  • Experience working with a variety of backgrounds including low socio‑economic, multicultural, and non‑traditional students
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Willingness and ability to travel independently and work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Working knowledge of computer applications and industry‑related systems
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively, including in small‑group or team settings
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience engaging the public and presenting information in large venues or forums
  • Experience maintaining data, report writing, and evaluating high‑school or college transcripts
  • Experience sharing University policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Experience resolving conflict peacefully
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Meet enrollment goals for a defined travel territory
  • Represent Central Michigan University during statewide and national recruiting events
  • Coordinate campus recruitment programs for prospective freshmen and transfer students
  • Work with high schools and community colleges to plan and arrange onsite visits, provide campus tours, and schedule individual visitor appointments
  • Assist colleges with admissions presentations and tours of campus
  • Participate in recruitment campaigns via email, social media platforms, and media outlets (newspaper, magazine, radio, television)
  • Review undergraduate admissions applications, respond to requests for information, and determine application status (acceptance or denial)
  • Plan, organize, and implement receptions for prospective students and their guests
  • Provide information on academic programs, career options, housing, financial aid, and transfer‑credit evaluation
  • Serve as a representative and ad‑hoc recruiter for graduate, international, and global/online admissions
  • Collaborate with alumni to promote Central Michigan University
  • Supervise volunteers, student employees, office interns, and graduate assistants as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
