Position Summary

The Department of Teacher and Special Education at Central Michigan University invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term faculty position in Special Education. Primary professional responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Special Education. This includes a 4-course teaching load, fall and spring semesters, in the academic year (4-4). This position is effective August 24, 2026. CMU is seeking a candidate who can begin preferably in the Fall 2026 semester;

however, a Spring 2027 start may be considered. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is an initial one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal based on positive performance and department needs.

Required Qualifications

Doctoral degree in Special Education or closely related field; ABD considered if degree is conferred by the start date.
Three years of PK-12th grade U.S. experience teaching students with disabilities; may also include working with students up to the age of 26.
Evidence of effective collaboration and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated commitment to the field of Special Education.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

Evidence of postsecondary teaching effectiveness.
Experience with online and/or face-to-face instruction.
Expertise in one or more areas: (a.) providing academic and behavioral instructional support/accommodations to PK-12th grade students with high-incidence in special education and inclusive educational settings, (b.) content area expertise in special education-reading and mathematics, (c.) knowledge of Michigan Department of Education Standards for Educator Preparation in Special Education, and/or (d.) Council for Exceptional Children’s initial preparation standards and high-leverage practices.
