Position Summary
As a member of the University Marketing & Communications team, the Social Media Content Creator will inform, engage and entertain audiences across multiple social media platforms—including Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, You Tube, Linked In and X—by creating quick‑turnaround content aligned with CMU’s brand and current campaigns. The role focuses on increasing CMU’s presence, responding to audience interactions, managing community engagement, and analyzing data to drive content strategy.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing, public relations, digital media, communications, or a related field.
- Experience developing content for major social media platforms:
Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, You Tube, Linked In and X. - Experience working with multidisciplinary/multifunctional teams to complete projects.
- Proficiency with video recording and editing on mobile devices, especially Apple iPhones.
- Highly creative, self‑motivated, detail‑oriented and goal‑focused.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated confidence in meeting and working with new people.
- Ability to remain organized while managing multiple tasks under strict deadlines.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
- Must be passionate about Central Michigan University and/or the higher‑education experience.
- Familiarity with best practices for social media content creation.
- Experience with Adobe Rush, Adobe Express, Cap Cut, and other content creation/editing tools.
- Experience with social media hosting and monitoring programs such as Agorapulse, Hoot Suite, Hub Spot, and others.
- Experience driving action from social media content and tracking performance on goals.
- Understanding of Search Engine Optimization and general marketing best practices.
- Familiarity with data analytics tools and the use of data to drive content development.
- Comfortability being on camera and interacting with new people.
- Creates daily content for CMU’s primary social media channels at the direction from the Associate and Assistant Directors of Social Media.
- Produces photo and video content, captures, edits, and shares across platforms.
- Develops content that aligns with trends and CMU’s brand.
- Works with the University Communications team to identify current and emerging social media trends and generate ideas to engage CMU.
- Identifies opportunities to capture campus content, including events and student organizations.
- Pulls social media data from dashboards, participates in review and assessment, and uses findings to guide content creation.
- Participates in cross‑functional team meetings to brainstorm and develop creative content.
- Assists with community management—interacting with followers, responding to comments, and participating in social listening.
- Assists with developing resources for internal stakeholder groups (campus social media managers, ambassadors, interns).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
