Summary

Up to $14,000 sign‑on bonus available to qualified candidates*.

The ED/SSU RN functions primarily in direct patient care, demonstrating competent clinical practice with a variety of patients. The RN works as part of a team with a common goal of offering patient‑centered, timely care in a safe and friendly environment. The RN provides individualized compassionate care to emergency department patients, observation patients, and outpatients. The RN initiates immediate care in the absence of a physician in life‑threatening situations and offers non‑judgmental care for the acutely ill as well as the non‑acute patient.

This position requires the ability to perform multiple procedures utilizing both complex and simple nursing skills. It also requires assisting physicians and other team members to provide relationship‑based patient‑centered care, providing comfort both physically and psychologically to patients, families, and visitors. The RN delivers patient‑specific discharge and follow‑up instructions using appropriate language for the patient’s and family’s psychosocial context. Communication with EMS on a daily basis is essential, relaying appropriate orders for pre‑hospital care in a friendly and respectful manner.

The RN works with multiple types of sophisticated equipment and handles various types of patients in a friendly and frequently stressful environment.

Responsibilities

40%* Serve as part of a multidisciplinary team, maintaining a friendly, customer‑oriented attitude at all times and treating every person with kindness, compassion, respect, and relationship‑based care.

30%* Regularly assess patient’s needs and provide skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician’s plan of care. Provide direct patient care including medication administration, treatments, education, call lights, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, and other duties as assigned.

20%* Evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment plan and make suggestions or participate in updating/revising it with other team members, utilizing current information to improve patient care.

10%* Maintain knowledge of all local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines. Keep up‑to‑date with My Michigan Health and ED/SSU policies and procedures, guide patient teaching, and uphold professional nursing standards.

Qualifications – Licensure & Certifications
  • RN:
    Registered Nurse License in Michigan
  • DIMC:
    Dysrhythmia Interpretation Man (DIC) certification required within 12 months of hire or transfer.
  • BLS:
    Basic Life Support within 1 month of hire or transfer.
  • ACLS:
    Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 12 months of hire or transfer.
  • PALS:
    Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 12 months of hire or transfer.
  • ENPC:
    Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course within 12 months of hire or transfer.
  • TNCC:
    Trauma Nursing Core Course or ATCN within 12 months of hire or transfer.
  • TEAM ADVANCED:
    Techniques for Effective Aggression Management within 6 months of hire or transfer (employees hired on or before 12/31/2023 have 24 months).
  • Mandatory TB testing annually.
  • Mandatory OSHA training annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
Required Education & Experience
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing culminating in RN licensure in the State of Michigan.
  • Interpersonal communication skills at all levels.
  • Experience with DIC, BLS, ACLS, PALS, ENPC, TNCC within specified time frames.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Windows.
Preferred Education & Experience
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) Certification.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • One year of Emergency Department experience.
