Position Title NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT - UNIVERSITY HEALTH SERVICES

Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) is responsible for primary care and student mental health services under the direction of a supervising psychiatrist. Other administrative duties may be assigned by the Dean and his/her designee. Duties include, but are not limited to, providing medical and mental health services to patients, inclusive of all functions necessary to provide quality medical care;

responding to questions/consultations of the staff; following medical protocols, handouts and clinical standards, and assisting in expanding the competencies of the clinical staff.

Required Qualifications
  • Graduate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant educational program.
  • American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certified for FNP’s.
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certified for PA’s.
  • Existing unrestricted license to practice in Michigan, or ability to be licensed in Michigan upon hire.
  • Current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification or planned attainment.
  • Excellent practice history.
  • Ability to be insured for liability purposes.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of post-graduate clinical experience.
  • Specialty in Psychiatry or experience working with mental health services with interest or experience working in a college or university setting.
  • Experience working with Electronic Medical Records and computers.
  • Experience in an Academic Medical Center, Urgent Care, Walk In Clinic, or teaching environment.
  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Practices medicine using sound medical judgment and adheres to all ethical considerations of the practice of medicine; knows limitations and consults on matters when advisable.
  • Stays abreast of current technologies and industry standards.
