Field Scientist – FTIR
This entry‑level role performs in‑field and in‑lab FTIR–based testing for a variety of emission sources. The Field Scientist works independently and as part of a team, reporting directly to the Mt. Pleasant District Manager.
Responsibilities- Assist with in‑lab FTIR sample analyses and calibration development.
- Follow established testing methods, procedures, and processes to support consistent and reliable data validation and reporting.
- Assist with data processing and report writing.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting of analytical testing data and equipment; propose corrective actions for field teams.
- Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and participate in training to stay current with FTIR technology and regulatory shifts.
- Perform in‑field FTIR‑based stack testing according to established procedures as needed.
- Set up, operate, and maintain analytical testing equipment.
- Participate in training for career development, safety, and required certifications.
- 0–3years of professional experience in an analytical laboratory setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering (chemistry preferred).
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Capability to pass background checks and initial and random drug screening.
- Ability to obtain a DOT medical certification and OSHA Respiratory Protection Medical Evaluation.
- Flexibility for weekend travel or work on multiple projects during the year.
- Capacity for overnight and local travel for multi‑weekday projects.
$23.50–$26.50 per hour.
Work Environment andPhysical Requirements
- Work in outdoor industrial settings, including climbing and working on elevated platforms (50ft–300ft) following OSHA/ANSI and other safety standards.
- Exert moderate physical effort, including lifting up to 50pounds.
- Travel locally and out-of-town with overnight stays 50–75% of the time.
- Often work outdoors, exposed to hot and cold environments and extreme weather conditions.
