Organization: Upstate SC LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce

Location: Remote; must be located in the Upstate South Carolina area and available for occasional local events

Position Type: Part-time independent contractor (1099), approximately 20-25 hours per week

Reports To: Board President and Executive Board Committee

Through membership, programming, and community partnerships, the Chamber helps members grow, connect, and thrive.

Position Overview

The Chamber seeks an enthusiastic, organized, and data-informed Part-Time Membership Coordinator who is committed to its mission and to creating an inclusive, welcoming environment for LGBT+ and allied businesses and professionals. This role oversees the member lifecycle from inquiry and onboarding through engagement, renewal, and reactivation; serves as the primary administrative contact; maintains member and billing records; supports revenue initiatives; monitors membership trends;

and assists with communications and events. The ideal candidate is relationship-focused, detail-oriented, able to work independently in a remote setting, and based in Upstate South Carolina.

Core Responsibilities
  • Membership lifecycle management: Manage member engagement from prospect inquiry and application through onboarding, ongoing participation, annual renewal, and reactivation.
  • Member service and outreach: Serve as the primary contact for membership questions by phone and email; explain benefits, resolve account concerns, and conduct timely, welcoming follow-up.
  • Retention and renewals: Monitor upcoming expirations and execute structured email, phone, and written outreach to encourage timely renewals and strengthen retention.
  • CRM and records: Maintain accurate member and prospect records in Growth Zone or a similar CRM, including applications, payments, profiles, and data quality. Manage and maintain the membership directory generated from Growth Zone data.
  • Billing administration: Create and monitor invoices, track payments, follow up on outstanding balances, and maintain accurate billing records.
  • Revenue support: Help advance Chamber giving and sponsorship efforts by identifying opportunities, coordinating outreach, and supporting donation follow-up.
  • Communications management: Monitor the Chamber’s shared inbox and voicemail, respond when appropriate, and route inquiries, sales leads, and requests to the correct board member or functional owner.
  • Reporting and insights: Compile regular membership metrics, including acquisition, renewals, attrition, engagement, revenue, and relevant demographic or pipeline trends, for leadership review.
  • Project and administrative coordination: Track board and operational tasks, monitor deadlines, support completion of assigned actions, and perform other administrative or membership-related duties as directed by the Board President or Board of Directors.
  • Additional support: Assist as needed with member onboarding and communications, Chamber events, and intern guidance. The Membership Director will support these efforts when needed, but they are not part of the role’s regular responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
  • One to three years of experience in membership services, customer service, administrative support, nonprofit operations, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a warm, professional, and service-oriented approach.
