Building Inspector Trainee

Job Summary

Join SAFEbuilt as a Building Inspector Trainee in Mt. Pleasant, SC. The role entails completing a 12 month training program covering residential inspections across building, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems. Trainees work under a mentor to gain hands-on experience and will be eligible for ICC Certified Combination Residential Inspector status upon program completion.

• Participate in daily orientation on legal and procedural aspects of building inspection.
• Perform residential inspections under guidance of a mentor or Field Training Inspector.
• Apply local building codes and construction practices to assess compliance.
• Provide code compliant solutions and recommendations to owners, contractors, and public officials.
• Maintain accurate inspection reports and documentation.
• Balance field experience with self-study materials.

• Strong desire to learn local building codes and construction procedures.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to interact positively with staff, public, contractors, and government entities.
• Time management, organization, and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Construction or trade background preferred.
• Certificate or degree in Construction Management or related trades is a plus.
