JOB TITLE:
JROTC Instructor
Under limited supervision by the school principal or his/her designee, provides thorough instruction for all students according to their individual needs and designs curriculum in accordance with South Carolina Department of Education Standards. Complies with all regulatory guidelines outlined in Cadet Command Regulation 145-2, JROTC Program Organization, Administration, Operation, Training and Support and Cadet Command Regulation 145-8-3, Organizational Inspection Program. Provides comprehensive educational instruction to students enrolled in the JROTC Program.
Assesses and documents student leadership skills and JROTC academic skills. Develops and implements instructional lesson plans utilizing the JROTC four-phase lesson plan and curriculum materials provided by the United States Army Cadet Command and implements appropriate instructional techniques based on individual student needs, while maintaining documentation of student progress. Coordinates with all JROTC department personnel to plan, organize and conduct JROTC extracurricular and co-curricular activities to meet requirements established in the Unit Report and Cadet Command Regulation.
Collaborates with general education staff, special education staff, guidance counselors, and school administrators, as needed, to maximize program effectiveness. Regularly communicates with parents and stakeholders regarding students’ achievement and behavior. Maintains management of classroom at all times. Reports to the Principal and/or Assistant Principal.
- Ensures that various instructional strategies are executed to encourage academic growth in diverse learners.

- Carries out all additional duties (lunch, bus, hall, morning, etc.) as directed by school administration.
- Attends required professional development that is beneficial to the CCSD and its students.
- Plans and presents a program of study and training in armed forces preparedness that meets the student’s needs, interests and abilities.
- Instructs students enrolled in the program for the purpose of meeting ROTC requirements.
- Maintains master training schedule, classroom equipment, clothing/uniforms, student files, records, maintenance budget, clothing inventory/ordering, etc. for the purpose of meeting the US Army and school district regulations.
- Evaluates student progress and counsels cadets on their performance within the JROTC program.
- Monitors students (e.g., drill practice, field exercises, classroom activities) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Complies with US Army and school district safety guidelines when instructing, supervising, monitoring, and accompanying cadets.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Develops course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, experiential exercises, demonstrations, training aides, reference materials and related resources to accomplish course and lesson objectives.
- Guides the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals; establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc., and communicates these objectives to students.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of students involved.
- Assists individual students in need of special attention.
- Prepares, administers and corrects tests and assignments; performs test score analysis; records student grades.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required; encourages students through proactive counseling to complete high school and pursue higher educational goals.
