Preferred QualificationsScience Instructor (SNSI) (W2–O6), Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard. Availability Summer 2026. Located in Lexington The program averages 100+ cadets annually and maintains Distinguished Unit status while delivering a strong STEM-focused curriculum through Cyber Patriot, drone operations, and applied leadership training. The unit conducts regular field trips and training events to key regional assets including the USS Yorktown and maintains collaborative engagement with The Citadel to reinforce real-world leadership and naval science applications.
The unit supports a full spectrum of competitive and developmental teams including drill, academics, rifle, orienteering, PT, and leadership, with strong participation in regional competitions and community events. White Knoll High School serves over 2,000 students on a traditional block schedule and benefits from strong administrative and community support. The selected candidate must possess or be willing to obtain a CDL and should expect to support after‑school programs, weekend travel, and unit operations aligned with a high operational tempo.
This is a 12‑month position compensated in accordance with the Minimum Instructor Pay (MIP) structure; no additional stipend is provided.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
- Certification as a certified JROTC instructor
- Status as a retired officer having a variety of military assignments with several assignments in leadership positions
- Must have current government issued identification
The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.
General SummaryUnder general supervision instructs students in JROTC skills. The JROTC program's stated mission is to "Motivate Young People to Become Better Citizens." This will be accomplished by following the prescribed Program of Instruction (POI) provided by the respective branch of service of each JROTC program. The JROTC POI provides both required and elective class material that will instill in students in secondary educational institutions the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment through leadership positions and extracurricular activities.

- Designs and facilitates engaging, high level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications appropriate to prepare students for a 21st century global, knowledge-based society.
- Teaches concepts and skills in JROTC which may include citizenship; leadership education; oral and written communication; military history; first aid; personal finance; map reading; and the rights, responsibilities, and privileges of being an American citizen, etc.
