Position Description Advertised Job Summary The Cardiovascular Technology ( CVT ) Program and the Department of Biological Sciences in the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a full-time, professional track faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Senior Instructor, to begin August 16, 2027. The position is a twelve-month appointment with 50% teaching and 50% administrative service.

This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon the dean's approval, satisfactory performance, department needs and the availability of funding.

We seek an experienced cardiovascular professional and educator who can bridge a rigorous undergraduate cardiovascular science education with contemporary clinical practice to help strengthen and expand our CVT major.

Teaching:

  • Advanced cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, including clinically relevant pathophysiology, hemodynamics, and foundations of diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures.
  • A professional development course that introduces students to the roles and responsibilities of a cardiovascular technologist, interprofessional communication, patient-centered care, and workplace professionalism.
  • Additional instruction and mentoring support as needed in Cardiovascular Health Sciences and in the Department of Biological Sciences.

Administration and program development:

  • Developing additional partnerships with CAAHEP-accredited cardiovascular technology training programs.
  • Managing and strengthening affiliation agreements and relationships with hospitals, clinical educators, and program directors of certificate training programs.
  • Contributing to the development, review, and improvement of Cardiovascular Sciences and related curriculum.
  • Complementing our professional student advisors in helping students transition from undergraduate study into affiliated clinical training programs and cardiovascular careers.

USC's Cardiovascular Technology major combines a rigorous science-based undergraduate curriculum with intensive clinical training through accredited partner programs, preparing students for professional cardiovascular technology practice, leadership, and further study. Current opportunities exist for training in adult echocardiography, vascular sonography, combined echo/vascular, invasive cardiovascular technology, and electrophysiology. Required

Education and Experience
  • (1) A master's degree in cardiovascular sciences, health sciences, kinesiology, physiology, exercise science, or a closely related field by employment start date.
  • (2) At least 2 years of professional experience in cardiovascular technology, diagnostics/intervention, or a closely related field with (3) current or previous professional certification/registration such as RCIS, RDCS, RVT, RCES, RCS, RVS, or equivalent nationally recognized cardiovascular credential.
  • (4) Sufficient instructional experience to teach advanced cardiovascular anatomy and physiology and prepare students for cardiovascular clinical practice.
  • (5) Strong communication, organizational, mentoring, and collaborative skills.

Appointment as Senior Instructor requires the equivalent of five years of full-time teaching experience in higher education. Candidates with evidence of research scholarship, quality-improvement and workforce development, professional leadership, or other contributions to cardiovascular education and clinical practice are encouraged to apply.
