Nuclear Performance Improvement Specialist I

This role is the entry or developmental level in the Nuclear Performance Improvement Specialist series responsible for implementing nuclear power plant performance monitoring processes and procedures designed to ensure safe and efficient operations. Performs routine to moderate work assignments and tasks designed to develop and enhance performance improvement expertise, knowledge and abilities for progression to the next level. Works with more senior level peers to resolve human performance issues and begins to implement the corrective action program.

Participates in root-cause analysis and self-assessment teams on corrective action cases. This position uses existing procedures to solve routine or standard problems, receiving instructions and guidance and direction from more senior level roles.

The Nuclear Performance Improvement Specialist I is responsible for assisting with the coordination of the station human performance program; identifying, evaluating, and reporting human performance trends and events, and developing and implementing improvement when required, working closely with department human performance coordinators. Provides support to the corrective action program; assists station personnel with the assignment and use of the corrective action process.

Ensures that assignments have been adequately addressed and are in accordance with policies and procedures; creates and distributes human performance-related communications (e.g., newsletters, presentations). Supports the coordination of the station work observation program, in addition to helping to maintain the station self-assessment and benchmark program. Assists with informal and formal self-assessments and benchmark activities at the site and fleet- wide as needed.

With guidance, helps coordinates the self-evaluation program. Maintains the station’s operating experience program and coordinated review of industry operating experience. May work with subject matter experts to assist in the preparation of industry operating experience reports. May assist more experienced staff with the coordination and hosting of INPO webcasts; maintains station and department key performance indicators, collect data, begin to analyze and identify trends.

Perform various administrative duties as required by the department.

This role is the intermediate or fully proficient level of a three-level job series responsible for developing and implementing nuclear power plant performance monitoring processes and procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation. Develops and recommends improvements in solving human performance issues and performance improvement processes. Implements corrective action programs and participates in and/or facilitates root-cause analysis and self-assessment teams on corrective action cases.

This level is distinguished from the Nuclear Performance Improvement Specialist I by the increased complexity of technical and analytical skills and plant and process knowledge. Continues to build knowledge of the organization,…
