Superintendent - Mechanical Mining Construction

Responsible for managing and overseeing mechanical construction of the leach plant circuit expansion, paste plant and surface facilities for the underground projects. The role involves the management of construction contractors, overseeing the quality control of contractor work, and working with the owner's team to ensure implementation of best practices for maintenance and operation of new equipment and facilities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Compliance with the company Health and Safety Policy and Environment Policy, promoting safety awareness and environmental responsibility among company and contract personnel.
  • Reporting personal injuries and incidents, assisting with investigations, and supporting safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Monitoring workplace incident reporting and hazards to maintain effective risk mitigation.
  • Conducting workplace inspections and audits to ensure site standards are adhered to.
  • Coordinating incident investigations within area of control.
  • Participating in planning meetings to review drawings, determine priorities, and assist in scheduling the work.
  • Establishing and monitoring mechanical construction methods and practices for effective cost control.
  • Working with the project manager to control, care/protect, and use tools, equipment, and company assets on site.
  • Conferring with supervisory personnel and subcontractors on planning, executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction.
  • Assisting the project manager and engineer with change orders and extra work requests.
  • Scheduling major process equipment deliveries with the project engineer.
  • Coordinating mechanical work with civil and electrical work.
  • Coordinating with process equipment vendors at start‑up.
  • Inspecting work in progress to ensure workmanship conforms to specifications and meets construction schedules.
  • Meeting regularly with engineer and inspectors regarding required work, quality, and other job‑related issues.
  • Resolving construction problems and improving construction methods in collaboration with project manager, engineer, and inspectors.
  • Preparing progress reports, materials, and job‑related costs.
  • Assisting the project manager with project close‑out.
  • Coordinating efficiency and relationships among all key personnel involved in the project.
  • Maintaining a strong line of communication and reporting on key performance indicators to the Construction Manager and Operations Teams.
  • Assisting with transitioning projects to the operational phase.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
People and Leadership
  • Establishing and maintaining a productive project culture through effective people management and team building.
  • Monitoring contractor teams and aligning their activities to achieve requirements.
  • Communicating regularly with all staff to ensure goals and priorities are clearly understood and to promote a harmonious working environment.
Technical and

Physical Requirements
  • Knowledge of surface mining plants and equipment, including leach tank circuits, surface workshop and warehouse, surface office facilities, underground pumping infrastructure, and surface ventilation fans.
  • Managing the flow of technical information between mechanics, contractors, electricians, and mine operations.
  • Exchanging technical information and learnings within the organization.
  • Identifying and managing risks and opportunities for mining construction.
  • Ensuring all activities within area of control are completed to the specifications and standards nominated for the works.
  • Ensuring all works are fit for purpose and meet end‑users’ requirements.
  • Physical demands include standing, sitting, manual dexterity, climbing stairs, talking, hearing, and seeing, working shift with 12‑hour shifts, lifting up to 50 pounds, and exposure to variable temperature and humidity.
  • Personal protective equipment includes hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, respirator, rubber steel‑toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and other required gear.
