Project Water Resources Engineer or Scientist

US-NC-Charlotte. Additional locations: US-NC-Raleigh, US-NC-Asheville, US-SC-Greenville, US-SC-Mt. Pleasant, US-TN-Johnson City, US-TN-Chattanooga.

Overview

Geosyntec offers this role to work on complex projects involving innovative urban stormwater management and natural surface water systems, including sustainable green infrastructure planning studies, urban stormwater infrastructure design, flood mitigation practices, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, dam breach studies, floodplain mapping, stream restoration, surface water and watershed monitoring and modeling, construction site permitting support, and Clean Water Act regulatory support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed hydrologic and hydraulic studies
  • Develop innovative green infrastructure solutions for the urban environment
  • Apply hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software, from 1-D to 3-D transport models
  • Carry out floodplain mapping and flood protection designs
  • Conduct in-stream and urban stormwater water quality monitoring and modeling
  • Perform field investigations and provide construction support services
  • Develop construction documents, including engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Prepare erosion and sediment control designs
  • Interact with client representatives
  • Direct multidisciplinary project teams
  • Scope, perform, manage, and deliver multiple concurrent project assignments
  • Support lead generation, business development, staff development, and mentoring
  • Publish and enhance visibility at prominent industry conferences
  • Travel to client or company project or office sites as needed
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, civil, agricultural, biological, biosystems engineering, natural resources or other science, with emphasis on water resources or closely related discipline (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same field (preferred) Skills, Experience and Qualifications
    • At least 7 years of research or related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience (required)
    • Experience with modeling and design software tools such as EPA-SWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS (preferred)
    • Ability to succeed in a fast‑paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed (required)
    • Excellent writing and communication skills (required)
    • Some field work and overnight travel (required)
    • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client‑driven drug and background testing may be required
    • Valid U.S. driver’s license and satisfactory driving record for business travel (required)
