Work Schedule:
3 Pm- 11pm
- Position is General Lab coverage (Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Serology, and Blood Bank.)
- Duties include accessioning specimens and Microbiology tasks such as loading blood culture bottles on the analyzer, plating traditional cultures, reading Gram stains and performing some rapid tests, including molecular assays. Instrument maintenance, QC and troubleshooting are necessary parts of the job.
- Ideal candidate is a pleasant, reliable, detail-oriented critical thinker who seeks ways to be helpful and to keep the lab running smoothly.
- Previous experience preferred but not required.
- Performs clerical, communication and computer duties.
- Obtains through proper phlebotomy technique assesses, processes, and distributes specimens from inpatients, outpatients and reference laboratory patients. Assesses, and interprets data about patient's status in order to identify each patient's age‑specific needs and provides the appropriate care.
- Performs client and vendor billing duties.
- Works independently.
- Performs all levels of laboratory testing and QC and QI.
- Assists in compliance issues and trains new Associates.
- Researches, writes and / or validates SOP’s.
- Maintains all laboratory records.
- Education:
4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. - Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science or equivalent. Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Technology or MT program preferred.
- If graduated before 1987, two-year certification is recognized as MT.
- Experience:
One year experience as laboratory scientist. (Clinical internships of 12 months duration meet this requirement), preferred. - Licensure/Certification:
Scientist Cert from ASCP or AMT (BB, C, H, MT/MLS, M, MB), required. - Additional
Skills Required:
New graduates and new hires must obtain certification within 12 months of hire. Failure to do so will result in termination of employment. - All individuals who are newly certified ASCP beginning January 1, 2004, must participate and maintain ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) through the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP). All individuals who are newly certified AMT beginning January 1, 2006, must participate and maintain AMT Certification Continuation Program (CCP).
- Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tests and communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and troubleshooting of instrumentation.
- Skill in performing a full range of laboratory tests.
- Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations.
- Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff and the public.
- Ability to read and understand information about instrumentation in laboratory field.
- Ability to follow written protocols.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
