Overview
MUSC Children’s Health After Hours Care Mt. Pleasant is a pediatric outpatient clinic that falls under the Shawn Jenkin’s Children’s Hospital ing the day, we host a variety of pediatric subspecialists such as pediatric pulmonary, GI, endocrinology, only to name a few. In addition to that, we provide a walk‑in After Hours Care, which is a direct extension of our pediatric emergency department to serve our community during the hours when most pediatricians are closed.
Our specialty clinics operate M‑F 8 am – 4:30 pm. The After Hours Clinic is open during the week, Monday through Friday from 3 pm – 10 pm and on the weekends from 12 pm – 7 pm. This position requires variable shifts of days, evening and weekend coverage.

Job DescriptionPosition under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) roles are included to support decentralized, patient‑centered care.
CMAJob Summary / Purpose
Certified Medical Assistant performs multi‑skilled activities to support a decentralized patient‑centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.
CMA Minimum Training and Education- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required (AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent); annual competencies are required to be maintained.
- Ability to understand and implement detailed instructions in therapeutic procedures and make accurate physical observations of patients.
- Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Possess considerable knowledge of basic medical terminology and human anatomy.
- Certified through AMT, AAMA, NHA, MedCA as a Certified Clinical & Administrative Medical Assistant (MA1), NAHP, or NCCT.
- Current BLS required (AHA or Red Cross certification).
Job Summary
Provides patient/family centered care, acting as partner and adviser, assists and supports patients and families to manage their health care, respecting their culture and values, needs, health goals and preferences. Applies critical reasoning and clinical judgment to expedite appropriate care and treatment, particularly for complex or life‑threatening conditions.
LPNMinimum Education and Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program.
- Licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.
Job Description
Physical requirements include standing, sitting, walking continuously; climbing stairs infrequently; working in temperature extremes and confined spaces; performing gross and fine motor tasks; lifting and carrying up to 50 lb unassisted; maintaining visual and hearing acuity; working rotating shifts, overtime, and in a latex‑safe environment.
