Position Summary:

nThe MRI Technologist performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The technologist is responsible for preparing patients, operating MRI scanners, ensuring image quality, and maintaining patient safety.nn

Key Responsibilities:

nOperate MRI equipment to produce diagnostic images of specific parts of the body.nn Screen patients for contraindications to MRI procedures (e.g., pacemakers, implants).nn Explain procedures and answer patient questions to ensure comfort and cooperation.nn Position patients correctly and use immobilization devices when necessary.nn Administer contrast materials as needed and monitor patient response.nn Maintain accurate patient records, including documenting procedures and patient histories.nn

Ensure compliance with safety standards, including magnetic field safety protocols.nn Monitor and maintain MRI equipment; report any malfunctions or maintenance needs.nn Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare staff to interpret images and provide optimal care.nn Adhere to hospital, state, and federal regulations regarding imaging procedures and patient care.nn Maintain continuing education and certification/licensure as required.nn

Qualifications:

nAssociate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.nn Completion of an accredited MRI technologist training program.nn Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in MRI or equivalent (e.g., ARMRIT).nn Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.nn Licensing and Certification Requirements by State:nLicensing requirements for MRI technologists vary across the U.S. Here’s a breakdown:nn States That Require State Licensure or Certification:nThese states require licensure, often through the state’s health or radiologic board.

Most align their requirements with ARRT or require passing a state exam.nn California – Requires state certification through CDPH-RHB.nn Texas – Requires licensure through the Texas Medical Board.nn Florida – Requires licensure through the Florida Department of Health.nnNew York – Requires licensing through NYS Department of Health.nn Massachusetts – Requires licensure for MRI technologists.nnNew Jersey – Requires licensing through the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.nn
