Responsibilities
  • Where state and federal laws/regulations allow, accountable for performing day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities; ensuring efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serves as a full-time certified pharmacy technician.
  • Responsible for operating pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervising pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers within the guidelines of authorized company policies, laws, regulations and business ethics.
  • Responsible for the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Leads training, coaching, and performance management of pharmacy technicians. Makes decisions regarding performance management including discipline and termination.
  • Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services; resolves customer complaints and answers non-clinical questions to ensure a positive customer experience; models and shares customer service best practices.
  • Develops strong relationships with customers by anticipating needs and proactively offering services to provide the best possible experience.
  • Assists pharmacist in patient care delivery including registration, prescription data entry, medication preparation, counting and verification where allowed by law; completes patient and physician calls and assists with healthcare service offerings such as vaccines and health screenings where permitted.
  • Delegates and directs non-clinical work in the pharmacy, ensuring tasks are completed on time and holding others accountable for efficient workflow.
  • Prepares and files reports and records required by the company and government agencies under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager or pharmacist.
  • Manages core pharmacy workflow, coordinates daily schedules, recommends allocation of hours, and maintains a clean, neat, and stocked pharmacy environment.
  • Ensures compliance with administrative activities and inventory management tasks that do not require pharmacist licensure; manages annual inventory preparation.
  • Drives new technology and process roll-outs, champions change, engages the team in action planning, and ensures proper operation and maintenance of pharmacy equipment.
  • Adheres to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription-dispensing activities and understands the elements of Good Faith Dispensing.
  • Maintains knowledge of company asset protection techniques, supports diversion monitoring, and reports any concerns that could compromise pharmacy security.
  • Communicates prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist and follows company policies and procedures related to errors and continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensures accurate insurance claim processing, resolves customer issues, prevents payment rejections, follows up with insurance companies, medical providers, and participates in third‑party audits.
  • Assists Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service.
  • Manages the Community Outreach Portal, coordinates off‑site immunization clinics and community events, and builds relationships with retail partners.
  • Leads performance management of technicians, including discipline and termination decisions, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and holding technicians accountable for attendance and timeliness.
  • Handles technician hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling; ensures timely training completion.
  • Identifies gaps in team knowledge and supports training, either hands‑on or via learning modules.
  • Monitors that all pharmacy and team member licensures, registrations, and certifications remain active and compliant.
  • Ensures proper procedures for selection, recruitment, record retention, and training according to company policy and local, state, and federal laws.
  • Maintains PTCB certification and state-required certifications, and enhances pharmacy and healthcare knowledge.
