Licensed Practical Nurse - Orthopedics - MUSCP

Job Summary

Responsible for quality patient care under the direction of a physician or licensed healthcare provider in a clinical practice. Duties include rooming patients, taking vitals and health history, documenting in an electronic medical record, giving injections and assisting with minor procedures.

• Room patient and take vitals, medical history.
• Document data in EMR.
• Administer injections and assist with minor procedures.
• Ensure accurate calibrations, cleaning and scheduled maintenance of clinical/lab equipment per OSHA, DHEC and UMA guidelines.
• Maintain and review patient records, charts and other pertinent information.
• Document test and exam results and communicate plan of care to patients, including developing patient education materials as needed.
• Maintain exam room supplies, instruments and cleanliness of patient care environment.
• Maintain timely flow of patients, assist with scheduling of appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability.
• Screen patients for appropriate information and provide patient education as appropriate for diagnosis and treatment.
• Observe, record and report patients’ physical and psychosocial condition, reactions to medication and treatments to physician.
• Respond to and triage phone calls; call in orders appropriately as ordered by physician.
• Instruct patients regarding treatment and/or medication as ordered by the physician.
• Responsible for monitoring and distribution of medication, including samples and controlled substances.
• Triage patients and prepare for physician exams and procedures.
• Assist in exam, procedures and treatments as necessary.
• Instruct patients in collection of samples and tests.
• Administer prescribed treatments and tests as ordered by the physician.

• Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program.
• Licensed as an LPN in South Carolina or a compact state.

• Current South Carolina LPN License or compact state license.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.

• Constant standing, walking and sitting; ability to bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, use both hands and legs, perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders.
• Qualified to use a respirator as required.
• Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, work in latex‑safe environment, work indoors.
• Frequently lift, lower, push, pull or carry objects weighing 50 lbs unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force and lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs.
• Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
