This posting is filling two (2) temporary part time positions.
Responsibilities of the Safety Watch Employee:- Assist visitors in order to maintain a safe and friendly atmosphere while at the museum. Answer questions concerning the museum and surrounding area attractions. Assist with any special-needs requirements visitors may have. Routinely inspect ships and buildings for potential hazards to employees and visitors. Report unsafe conditions. Respond to fire alarms and medical emergencies in accordance with Agency policies. Provide traffic control when necessary.
- Patrol assigned areas in order to help prevent vandalism, theft or unsafe actions which might lead to injury. Report any problems to the shift supervisor. Maintain logs and prepare reports as required.
- Participate in regular training as provided, including but not limited to, safety, CPR, First Aid and medical/fire emergencies.
- Employee may be required to work after normal working hours, on weekends, holidays, emergencies, and or special events. Employee is in a position designated as an “essential position”, therefore, employee may be required to stay onboard USS Yorktown as part of an emergency crew during named storms to provide support during the storm, to conduct post-disaster damage assessment, and to take initial recovery actions following the storm.
Employee may be required to perform other duties as assigned to accomplish the mission of the Agency. - Maintain the 48 US and service flags on the property. Some flags will go up and down every day. The employee will track the weather in the area and secure the flags prior to any severe weather hitting the property.
A high school diploma and experience in fire prevention, safety or security activities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:- Knowledge of theory, practices and techniques of safety, security and fire prevention.
- Ability to act quickly and intelligently in emergency situations and accurately report events.
- Ability to adjust to fluctuating situations. Ability to deal courteously and firmly with the visiting public and possess a customer service attitude with good communications skills.
- Must be able to climb vertical ladders, walk long distances in a single workday, and lift up to 30 pounds.
