Position: Sergeant - Intel (#018918) Ridgeland Correctional Institution, Ridgeland (JASPER) Level 2

Responsibilities

  • Disseminating information to supervisory staff to enhance Institutional/agency intelligence.
  • Surveillance of potential threat areas.
  • Interview and verify photographs have been taken of all new arrivals.
  • Complete paperwork/packets on inmates who are suspected to be involved in gang activity or want to renounce.
  • Assist contraband staff in searching cells of suspected gang members.
  • Monitor inmate phone calls.
  • Maintain accurate records of all confiscated items such as written material containing code and symbols.
  • Supervise assigned subordinates to ensure full monitoring of individuals of concern, and adherence to established policy and procedure.
  • Gather STG related evidence and intelligence.
  • Assist in monitoring STG populations within institutions.
  • Assist with any duties as assigned by the Statewide STG Coordinator, Assistant Statewide Coordinator, or STG Analyst.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Qualifications
  • A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
  • A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
  • Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
