Utilize various skills as a marine electrician involving general repair and maintenance as well as ship restoration and preservation. Assist with the equipment aspects of onboard fire monitoring systems, both troubleshooting and diagnosis. Respond when tasked after hours when an electrical emergency or fire monitoring system requires troubleshooting or repair. The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Perform complex maintenance and repair tasks involving shipboard and landside electrical systems and components. On a periodic basis, conducts inspections of museum ships for electrical hazards.
- Monitor and maintain fire monitoring and detection systems, cathodic protection systems and hotel service systems necessary to carry out the mission of the museum events and activities.
- Assists with the operation and use of shipboard log-out/tag-out procedures when required by first line supervisors or management.
- Initiates and performs preventive maintenance on equipment in the employee’s area of responsibility. Rotates in a duty statue with others in work group to provide electrician support for off hour emergencies. Will be required to operate sound and light systems for special functions after hours and weekends when needed.
- Use lifts and other equipment specifically trained on when necessary to perform work. Job may involve working at heights.
- Adheres to all safety and environmental regulations required by the Agency. Attends monthly safety briefings, safety JHA or toolbox talks and completes online E-Safety courses as required.
- Wear all prescribed personal protective equipment as required by the work activity or task.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned to accomplish the mission of the Agency.
A high school diploma and experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical shipboard and building systems. Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year basis. A driver's license is required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS- Working knowledge of basic arithmetic and units of measure. Basic knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the electrical trade.
- Basic skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment of the electrical trade. Ability to interpret and work from sketches. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- May be required to work after normal working hours, on weekends, holidays, emergencies and or special events.
- May be assigned to a 'stay-aboard' team when required by the Executive Director during times of weather emergencies declared by state or local government.
- Must be capable of climbing vertical ladders, lifting 50 pounds and walking long distances in a single workday.
