Job Title:HVAC Mechanic IJob Summary
Assist with the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC systems across the FLETC Charleston facility. As DAWSON’s HVAC Mechanic I, you will support senior technicians in ensuring heating, cooling, and ventilation systems operate safely and efficiently while gaining hands‑on experience in troubleshooting and system diagnostics.

Salary$28.07 per hour + $5.09 per hour = $33.16 per hour (Salary may be negotiable and may be increased based on relevant experience and qualifications.)
Responsibilities- Assist with installation and maintenance of HVAC systems including air handlers, pumps, thermostats, and ductwork.
- Perform routine filter changes, coil cleaning, lubrication, and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Support diagnosis of mechanical and electrical HVAC issues under guidance of senior mechanics.
- Conduct refrigerant recovery and charging under proper supervision.
- Maintain tools, materials, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
- Follow all OSHA safety standards and PWS Section C-5.B maintenance protocols.
- Record basic service data and report issues to lead or supervisory personnel.
- 1–3 years of experience in HVAC service or maintenance.
- Proficiency in the operation, diagnostics, and programming of system controllers such as Trane Tracer Summit and other programmable control modules required.
- Shall possess or actively pursue one of the following per PWS:
- North American Technician Excellence (N.A.T.E.) Core Service plus Air Distribution Services Specialist or any service Knowledge Areas of Technician Expertise (K.A.T.E.) Specialty listed under the service category.
- HVAC Excellence Professional - the following three certifications:
Light Commercial Air Conditioning and Gas Heat - UA Star HVACR Mastery Certification
- EPA 608 Type I or II Certification required;
Universal Certification preferred. - Basic understanding of HVAC system components and safety procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions, read technical manuals, and work as part of a team.
- Physically able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined or elevated areas.
- Completion of trade school or vocational training in HVAC preferred.
- Must be able to obtain a favorable adjudication via a DHS background investigation and maintain suitability clearance.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident with work authorization.
- This position may require the operation of Company-provided vehicles.
- If operating Company-provided vehicles, maintaining a valid driver’s license in good standing is a condition of employment.
- If operating Company-provided vehicles, employee must comply with all Company vehicles use and safety policies, as well as all applicable traffic laws.
- If operating Company-provided vehicles, the Company may review your motor vehicle record (MVR), as permitted by law, to verify eligibility to operate Company vehicles.
- If operating Company-provided vehicles, you must immediately notify the Company if your driver’s license is suspended, revoked, restricted, expires, or if your driving privileges otherwise change.
Work hours are with availability to be on call outside of work hours.
