Job Summary:

Under general supervision, Antepartum, Postpartum/Pediatric Nurses deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with established philosophy. Nurses collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes.

Essential Functions:
  • Knows and conforms to the Texas Nursing Practice Act, Board rules, and all applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
  • Provides nursing services without discrimination regarding age, disability, economic status, gender, national origin, religion, race, or health problems.
  • Responsible for total nursing care, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of each assigned patient to unit guidelines and national mandates.
  • Provides age-appropriate care, including assessment and documentation of fetal heart rate tracings, contraction patterns, and quantitative blood loss during the postpartum period.
  • Assesses and intervenes appropriately based on patient coping abilities, and communicates patient status to providers.
  • Ensures patient safety and maternal care regulations through audits and adherence to TRMC vaccine policy.
  • Educates patients, families, and others to attain optimal health and continuity of care.
  • Performs bedside hand-offs during care transfers and participates in unit process improvement projects.
  • Participates in unit-specific quarterly education and serves as a mother‑baby care advocate as staffing and census allow.
  • Will take unit call as assigned by Director and works on time and as scheduled.
Work Experience:
  • Two years of Labor & Delivery, Antepartum, or Postpartum experience preferred.
Education and Licensure:
  • Registered Nurse licensed to practice in Texas required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) upon hire date.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) within 90 days of hire date.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) within 90 days of hire date preferred.
  • AWHONN Fetal Monitoring preferred.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) within 90 days of hire date.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Includes lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and other activities with weight ranges and time percentages as outlined. Work involves indoor and outdoor environments, exposure to noise, chemicals, sharps, and variable lighting conditions.
