Job Summary
Job: RN – Labor & Delivery (Hourly, Non‑Exempt, Professionals Category
2).
The Labor and Delivery RN knows and conforms to the Texas Nursing Practice Act and the Board's rules and regulations as well as all federal, state, and local laws, rules or regulations. The RN provides nursing services without discrimination. The RN is responsible for providing, delegating, and coordinating patient care. The RN ensures that patient care needs, safety standards, standards of care and patient rights are met, coordinates plans of care and collaborates with team members to achieve unit goals for patient education and discharge planning.
EssentialFunctions
- Provides age‑appropriate care.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in the assessment and care of antepartum, intrapartum, newly delivered, and postpartum women.
- Accurately evaluates labor progress.
- Accurately assesses and documents fetal heart rate tracings and contraction patterns.
- Accurately assesses quantitative blood loss during and after delivery.
- Administers appropriate medications and treatments to patients.
- Assesses and documents vital signs according to unit guidelines.
- Updates care plan according to patient status and unit guidelines.
- Educates the patient and her family on all aspects of her care.
- Assesses and intervenes appropriately based on patient's coping abilities.
- Provides clear information to providers regarding status of the patient.
- Participates in unit process improvement projects.
- Actively participates in chart audits.
- Provides bedside hand‑off whenever transfer of care occurs.
- Adheres to and follows all patient experience initiatives.
- Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
- Participates in unit specific quarterly education.
- Provides appropriate care/care planning to unit guidelines, designation and national mandates.
- Provides mother‑baby care as appropriate for census and staffing.
- Acts as a surgical circulator in cesarean section, tubal ligations and emergency procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge and competence in pre‑operative and post‑anesthesia care.
- Demonstrates knowledge and competence in obstetric triage.
- Demonstrates knowledge and competence in care and transfers of high‑risk obstetrical patients.
- Willingness to take unit call as needed as assigned by Director.
- Advocate of family‑centered care.
- Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
- L&D, Antepartum, or Postpartum experience preferred.
- Registered Nurse currently licensed to practice in the State of Texas required.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) upon hire date.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) within 90 days of hire.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) within 90 days of hire date.
- AWHONN Fetal Monitoring preferred.
