Position: Jacket Operator (Weekend Shift, Nights)

Assembles mechanical units or fabricated parts to make sub‑assemblies or complete products within routine and repetitive assembly operations. Uses various hand and power tools and operates equipment that may include jigs, dies, fixtures, templates, punch presses, riveting machines, circular shears, and drill presses to cut, file, fit, punch, ream, rivet, form, and/or assemble. Fits, aligns, calibrates, and adjusts parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product requirements.

Monitors quality of products and raw materials, performs simple routine maintenance and cleaning, and determines and corrects minor machine malfunctions. Requires 3–5 years of experience and works under broad supervision. Typical job titles include:
Press Operator, Machine Operator, Maker/Packer.

General Position Summary

The Jacket Operator is responsible for setting up and running the final extrusion on assembled product. The Jacket Operator produces a quality product in a safe and efficient manner while promoting a team atmosphere. They help problem‑solve and proactively seek ways to improve the Jacketing process and maintain all equipment in the Jacket work center.

Essential Duties
  • Strive to achieve continuous improvement in all activities, processes, and projects at Dekoron.
  • Set‑up and run the jacketing extrusion.
  • Set‑up and run for different product types and customer specifications.
  • Understand instructions for handling packets with rejects.
  • Read and understand work orders.
  • Document deviations.
  • Reprocess nonconforming product.
  • Set‑up and shut down the jet printer for the jacketing extrusion.
  • Ensure proper handling of short footage for the jacketing extrusion.
  • Understand procedures for handling corrective and preventive actions.
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance department to ensure product meets specifications.
  • Monitor the shelf life of marking inks/thinners and follow procedures for proper identification.
  • Follow procedures for calibration and maintenance of the Target System optical measuring devices.
  • Clean and maintain all tooling associated with the Jacket line equipment.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Recommend process improvements.
  • Work as a team with other Jacket Operators and Dekoron employees.
  • Distinguish between different colors of product.
  • Promote safety in all processes and activities.
  • Assist with training of new employees and cross‑training of current employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Preferred
  • High School diploma, education, or GED (required).
  • Technical training (preferred).
  • Licenses or certifications are not required for this position.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting with responsibilities in extrusion is preferred but not required.
Knowledge and Skills Preferred
  • Monitoring – watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure machine operation.
  • Equipment selection – determine the kind of tools and equipment needed for the job.
  • Control precision – adjust machine controls to exact positions.
  • Communication – understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Getting information – observe, receive, and obtain information from all relevant sources.
  • Cognitive thinking – problem‑solve, prioritize activities, allocate resources, maintain material supplies, make sound decisions, and recommend solutions in troubleshooting and repair.
  • Make quick decisive decisions concerning product and machine adjustments needed to ensure quality.
  • Understand the importance of accuracy.
  • Evaluate information to determine compliance with laws, regulations, or standards.
  • Identify objects, actions, and events by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes.
  • Communicate with supervisors, peers, or subordinates by telephone, in written form, email, or in person.
