Position SummaryThe Plasma Operator is responsible for safely operating CNC plasma cutting equipment to produce high‑quality metal components according to engineering drawings, production schedules, and quality standards. This role ensures materials are cut accurately, equipment is maintained, and production goals are met while supporting a safe and organized manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Operate CNC plasma cutting machines to cut steel and other materials according to work orders and engineering specifications.
- Load, unload, and position raw materials using overhead cranes, forklifts, or other authorized material handling equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, cut files, nesting layouts, and work instructions.
- Verify material type, thickness, dimensions, and part identification before processing.
- Monitor machine performance and make operational adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.
- Perform machine setup, consumable changes, and preventive maintenance.
- Inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy and compliance with specifications.
- Report equipment malfunctions, quality concerns, and material defects.
- Record production, scrap, downtime, and completed work orders accurately.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area following 5S standards.
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout practices.
- Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Manufacturing or industrial experience preferred.
- Experience operating CNC plasma equipment preferred but not required.
- Ability to read a tape measure and use precision measuring tools.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to read blueprints and production documents.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with Messer, Hypertherm, Burny, or similar CNC plasma systems.
- Steel fabrication or trailer manufacturing experience.
- Forklift and overhead crane certification or experience.
- Basic understanding of G‑code or CNC programming.
