Position: RN - ED - Full Time (Nights)

Overview

The Emergency Department RN adheres to the Texas Nursing Practice Act and the Board's rules and regulations, as well as all applicable Federal, State or local laws. The RN provides nursing services without discrimination and is responsible for total nursing care, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation of each assigned patient, discharge planning, and teaching. The RN ensures the plan is carried out in a safe environment through supervision of subordinate personnel and educates patients and families to attain optimal health and continuity of care.

Responsibilities
  • Knows and conforms to the Texas Nursing Practice Act and the Board''s rules and regulations, as well as all Federal, State or local laws, rules or regulations.
  • Provide, without discrimination, nursing services regardless of age, disability, economic status, gender, national origin, race, religion, or health problems of the patient.
  • Responsible for the total nursing care, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of each assigned patient.
  • Plan, provide, evaluate, and document nursing care, discharge planning, and teaching.
  • Assure the plan is carried out and provided in a safe environment through performance and supervision of subordinate personnel.
  • Collect data from patient, family, significant others and staff to reflect needs and report unusual findings.
  • Collect and interpret data to provide care based on growth and development across the lifespan.
  • Assist physician in seeing patients by obtaining and documenting vital signs, preparing patients for examination, and assisting with examinations or procedures as needed (including fetal non-stress testing).
  • Know the rationale for and effects of medications; administer medications according to policy.
  • Perform waived laboratory tests as ordered and per hospital policy.
  • Draw and prepare specimens for transport to laboratory as needed.
  • Administer tests, treatments and procedures ordered by the physician or provider.
  • Monitor, maintain and order clinical supplies.
  • Maintain and monitor patients'' EMR, including test reports and completion of Ambulatory Care Summary by the third visit.
  • Perform and document regular quality control of laboratory tests as required by policies and procedures.
  • Function as charge nurse when required.
  • Adhere to and follow patient experience initiatives.
  • Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
  • Follow TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by CMS.
Work Experience
  • Two years of nursing experience preferred.
  • Emergency Department/hospital experience preferred.
Education and Certifications
  • Registered Nurse currently licensed to practice in the State of Texas required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) upon hire date required.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) required within 90 days of hire date.
  • PALS/ENPC (Pediatric Advanced Life Support/Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) required within 6 months of hire date.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required within 12 months of hire date.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical requirements include lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, and movement activities with varying time allocations. Work involves standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing stairs. Environment includes indoor/outdoor exposure, noise, equipment usage, and potential contact with sharps and chemicals. Vision requirements include depth perception, color discernment (not required), peripheral vision, and other standard requirements. Endurance includes time-focused activity across a 12-hour shift with standing and walking portions as specified.
