Adult Basketball Scorekeeper (part-time)
Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi‑generational community. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities.
The Mt. Prospect Park District is searching for an Adult Basketball Scorekeeper to supervise and keep the scorebook and clock for the district’s adult basketball games. The position is part‑time, beginning in May and running through August. Hours will be weeknights and/or weekend mornings/afternoons. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
The starting pay for the part‑time Adult Basketball Scorekeeper is $15.00 per hour. Additionally, we offer benefits for park‑district facility and programming usage.
- Arrive at assigned site 15 minutes before first scheduled game time while wearing park‑district‑issued staff apparel.
- Set up the scorer’s table and chairs, scorebook, and the scoreboard.
- Set up spectator seating area and players area, depending on location.
- Inspect the playing area and ensure it is safe for play.
- After each game, complete score sheets and leave them in the binder for the Athletic Manager.
- When games are over, put away the scoreboard, clean up the bleachers, spectators’ seating areas, the gym, and the scorer’s table, if applicable.
- Set‑up and location of equipment will vary from site to site; the Athletic Staff will inform you of your site set‑up when you are assigned a location. You may be required to work at more than one site during the season.
- Act as a liaison between Park District patrons and management.
- Attend necessary staff meetings.
- Follow all Park District rules and policies.
- Perform additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential.
- Be responsible for all other duties as assigned by the Athletics Supervisor, Athletics Manager, Superintendent of Recreation, Director of Recreation, and/or the Executive Director. In emergencies, perform all other duties as required.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Ability to work the scoreboard and keep score in the scorebook.
- Ability to complete required timesheets and result cards and submit them to Athletics in a timely manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others for coordination of work, safety, and in emergency situations if needed.
- Demonstrated good judgment and common sense; recognize unsafe conditions and emergencies and respond accordingly.
- Physical ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time; stoop, bend, and kneel as needed; occasionally lift 50 pounds from a squat position.
- Reliability and ability to work independently; regular and reliable attendance is essential.
- Ability to abide by the guidelines and policies set by the Park District.
- Represent the Park District’s Athletic Department professionally at all times; display a positive attitude toward the park district, its employees and programs.
Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours may be required. Your work schedule may vary.
