ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR POSITION: DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY, DIVISION OF CARDIAC SURGERY
The University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, is seeking candidates to join the full-time faculty of the Division of Cardiac Surgery. This role requires board certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery or completed training in an accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery residency or fellowship. Responsibilities include establishing a broad Cardiac Surgery practice at the University of Maryland, Capital Region Medical Center, providing care to complex cardiac surgery patients, contributing to the growth of cardiac surgery throughout the Medical System, and educating medical students, surgery residents, and fellows.
Candidates should have a clear plan for clinical practice building, academic development, and scholarly activity.
- Establish a broad Cardiac Surgery practice at the University of Maryland, Capital Region Medical Center.
- Provide care to complex cardiac surgery patients.
- Contribute to the comprehensive growth of cardiac surgery throughout the Medical System.
- Educate medical students, surgery residents, and fellows.
- Develop a plan for clinical practice building, academic development, and scholarly activity.
- Teach all facets of cardiac surgery to integrated thoracic surgery trainees.
- Expand research and scholarly activities to achieve national and international recognition; collaborate with researchers within the Department of Surgery and across the University.
- Engage with the Division’s research portfolio and participate in related clinical trials and scholarly initiatives.
- Board-certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery or completed training in an accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery residency or fellowship program.
- Interest in teaching and mentoring trainees; ability to contribute to clinical, academic, and scholarly missions.
The Division of Cardiac Surgery provides services at three locations and is a leader in cardiac surgical care in Maryland. It sponsors a mature, integrated 6-year Cardiothoracic Training program and a Cardiothoracic Fellowship. The division includes NIH-funded surgeon-scientists, a Clinical Research Unit with ongoing clinical trials, and is a site for the NHLBI-sponsored Cardiothoracic Surgical Trials Network.

Salary Range: $590,750 - $1,173,827. The stated range reflects base pay and may vary based on rank, years in rank, geographic location, skills, experience, internal equity, market conditions, and other factors. This range does not include all components of the departmental compensation program or participation in variable compensation programs.
