Role Description

This is an independent contractor position, on-site role for an American Sign Language Interpreter located in Maryland, United States. The interpreter will facilitate effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and hearing individuals through interpreting and translating American Sign Language (ASL) and English. Key responsibilities include interpreting in various settings such as meetings, conferences, educational environments, medical facilities, and community events.

The role requires understanding and effectively conveying cultural nuances to ensure accurate and meaningful communication. Time management, attention to detail, and adaptability in diverse environments are crucial for success in this position.

Qualifications
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreting skills
  • Expertise in translation and understanding of Deaf Culture
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to facilitate effective interactions
  • Certification in ASL interpreting is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with ethical interpreting practices and professional standards
  • Flexibility to work in a variety of settings with diverse groups of people
  • Prior experience in interpreting services is a plus
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and accessible environment
