Special Education Teacher

Duties

Full-time Permanent Special Education teacher. Must be organized and good with learning new computer based programs. Special Education Teacher will be required to develop lesson plans and must be able to individualize curriculum for high school students with disabilities. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, behavior, and grades. Monitor/chart instructional and behavioral progress for the students; establish/maintain educational programming for students;

establish a varied environment which accommodates the differing ways that students learn; maintain records and reports regarding pupil progress in a timely manner. Excellent classroom management skills are vital. Work collaboratively with others, including paraprofessionals, to provide support to all students. Serve as a Case Manager for a proportional number of students by developing and managing IEPs.

Qualifications

Have appropriate Illinois teaching license or be eligible for license based on education and work experience in Special Education. Appropriate Illinois Professional Educator License: LBS
1. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may prescribe. Evidence of successful teaching experience, preferably at the Secondary Level. Excellent communication skills, experience working with diverse populations. Experience in curriculum development and instructional processes. An understanding and a commitment to the philosophy that all students can be successful. Ability to build rapport with students, staff, parents and community members.
