Overview

Responsible for supervising and coordinating activities for assigned functional area in the Distribution Center. Monitors daily productivity/output by KPIs, defines resource needs with management, and works within budget and staffing parameters to meet business objectives. Ensures accuracy and integrity of inventory/merchandise movement by monitoring SIMS/AS-400 system applications. Oversees team members’ productivity, quality of work, and performance using available tools (progress summaries, retraining, performance assessments, performance improvement plans, and disciplinary actions as needed).

Maintains compliance with safety programs and fosters a strong safety culture in the functional area.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise a group of Team Members in a designated functional area in the Distribution Center. Monitor productivity and quality of work, and manage performance using tools such as progress summaries, retraining, performance assessments, performance improvement plans, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Mentor team members through on-the-job training. Collaborate with the DC Trainer on new team member orientation, including completion of training checklists. Conduct 15-minute Observe, Coach, and Recognize (OCR) sessions as necessary. Help develop training curricula.
  • Conduct MBWA (Management by Walking Around) to ensure safety, address team member concerns, communicate essential information, and enforce distribution center guidelines.
  • Establish and cultivate morale and engagement among team members. Encourage participation in workplace activities and events. Facilitate positive communication channels between cross-functional teams.
  • Enter daily performance forecasts into the DC productivity/efficiency report (e.g., DC Big Boy). Use and update system applications for proper operation and reporting. Leverage performance management, KPI, DC Balancing, and Flow reports to manage daily DC area performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all Centers of Excellence SOPs for each applicable functional area.
  • Advocate for and participate in continuous improvement, particularly LEAN initiatives, to improve processes and reduce waste.
  • Collaborate with management to measure performance compliance and requirements and direct appropriate actions by team members and equipment to maintain or exceed required levels.
  • Maintain appropriate records for team members, equipment, and KPIs under responsibility.
  • Participate in administrative activities, including defining resource needs and managing within budget and staffing parameters to meet business objectives. Assist in managing daily staffing needs for the designated department, including vacations, turnover, and volume planning.
  • Participate in team member concerns, including reporting, follow-up, investigation, or disciplinary processes.
  • Promote a safe environment and ensure compliance with company policies and regulations set forth by Walgreens and relevant government agencies regarding safety, environmental handling of products, packaging, and related items.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year of experience in collaborating/leading team projects OR High School/GED with at least 4 years’ experience in collaborating/leading team projects OR High School/GED with United States Armed Forces or equivalent leadership experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience assisting management with assignment of work and responsibilities to coworkers or other managerial tasks (e.g., monitoring work, attendance, etc.).
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite.
  • Willing to work any shift.
  • Experience identifying operational issues and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships within a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 1 year of experience working in a distribution center/production environment.
  • Experience in indirect management of team members, including coaching, mentoring, assisting in development, training, and assignment of work/projects to others.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience using Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience working with SPC tracking, AS400, Sort View, or ISS.
  • Experience in distribution, warehousing, or logistics.
  • Experience analyzing operational reports.
  • Experience in LEAN manufacturing or logistics environments.
