Job Overview
SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois is seeking a Critical Care Advanced Practitioner (Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to serve as a nocturnist in the 16‑bed CCU on a 7‑on/7‑off schedule (Tuesday to Tuesday) covering 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. The role focuses on high‑quality care for critical care patients, including admissions, consults, and post‑operative surgical patients – typically two admissions per night.
Procedural experience in central and arterial line placement and intubation is highly desired; candidates with limited experience will receive on‑the‑job training under a collaborating physician.
- Assist in providing high‑quality care to critical care patients, including patient admissions, consults, and postoperative surgical patients.
- Perform central and arterial line placement and intubation, where experienced.
- Collaborate as a team player with physicians and nursing staff on a nocturnist schedule.
- Undergo on‑the‑job training when necessary.
- Graduate of a nationally accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program.
- If NP: hold Acute Care certification.
- ACNP or PA must have experience post‑education.
- Ability to obtain PA/NP licensure in Illinois.

Compensation is based on relevant experience, medical specialty, labor market, and other qualifications. The posted pay range reflects SSM Health's good‑faith estimate; the actual offer may be higher or lower. This position may also be eligible for incentive pay.
