Controller (Construction)
Our client, a construction company in Mount Vernon, NY is seeking a Controller to oversee the company's financial operations, including monthly financial reporting, WIP scheduling, and business analytics.
Responsibilities
- Perform all required accounting functions in a timely and accurate manner
- Provide reports and schedules to the company's CPA firm for financial statement preparation
- Provide accurate job summary reports to field teams
- Maintain complete and thorough knowledge of company accounting functions and procedures
- Utilize accounting systems (Sage and Quick Books experience preferred) and produce reports, spreadsheets, and financial analysis as needed by management
- Accurately and timely prepare weekly payroll
- Accumulate job cost data from weekly payroll reports, materials, and subcontract billings to prepare cost reports by project
- Maintain company banking accounts (operating, payroll, savings, and investment), including deposits, disbursements, and reconciliations
- Monitor daily cash balances to cover obligations and maximize interest earnings
- Lead monthly close of internal financials, including analysis of bank accounts, A/R, A/P, accruals, WIP schedule, and reconciliations
- Process and issue accounts payable and subcontractor payments
- Generate monthly recaps for Workers' Compensation and General Liability insurance premiums
- Maintain personnel files and records including tax forms, insurance records, 401(k), flex spending, employment/drug test records
- Assist management and employees with health insurance, 401(k), and flex spending questions
- Perform year-end close in coordination with the CPA firm
- Support and manage company audits (including sales tax, payroll tax, and insurance audits)
- Prepare budgets/forecasts and review budget-to-actual performance
- Prepare and file state/local sales tax reports quarterly as required
- Review payment applications/requests to Owners
- Oversee A/P, A/R, and credit card processing to ensure proper entry and payment
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
- Required:
experience with a General Contractor or Subcontractor
