MEP Construction Superintendent (Boiler Exp)

The MEP Construction Superintendent oversees the successful delivery of commercial construction projects with a strong focus on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This role ensures all work is completed on time and in strict accordance with plans, specifications, and local codes, while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and organization across multiple job sites. The superintendent coordinates direct labor and subcontractors, manages project documentation, and leads field operations from project kick-off through final turnover and post-occupancy work.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all fieldwork to ensure it aligns with approved plans, specifications, and local codes.
  • Communicate conflicts, discrepancies, or required revisions in drawings and specifications to the project team and secure resolution before executing work that deviates from approved plans.
  • Establish, implement, and enforce job site quality control and safety programs to maintain a safe, clean, and high-quality work environment.
  • Oversee direct labor and manage the scheduling of subcontractors, consultants, vendors, deliveries, and materials to support timely project completion.
  • Ensure all construction activities, including MEP installations, are performed in accordance with contract documents, plans, and specifications.
  • Maintain detailed daily logs of job site activities, including workforce, inspections, deliveries, and significant events.
  • Conduct regular quality inspections to verify that materials and equipment used are approved for the job and that work meets safety, health, and environmental standards.
  • Manage multiple job sites simultaneously and ensure all deficiencies, punch list items, and non-conformances are identified and corrected promptly.
  • Coordinate and preside over subcontractor meetings to review progress, resolve issues, and reinforce safety and quality expectations.
  • Ensure job sites remain clean, organized, and free of hazards throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare, collect, and manage timesheets for internal labor and subcontractor personnel to support accurate labor tracking and reporting.
  • Organize and manage project paperwork, including SDS and MSDS documentation, OSHA logs, submittals, RFIs, and other required records.
  • Participate in preplanning for future jobs, including sequencing of work, resource planning, and risk identification.
  • Conduct evaluations of trade performance and subcontractor effectiveness, providing feedback to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Oversee project close-out activities, including preparation of close-out reports, documentation, and coordination of post-occupancy repair work.
  • Review construction drawings to understand design intent and provide suggestions for improvement, constructability, and efficiency.
  • Guide project quality control from initial kick-off through final turnover, ensuring systems are installed, tested, and commissioned properly.
  • Monitor safety compliance across all job sites and arrange for necessary labor, tools, equipment, and training to maintain safe operations.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts in construction progress, sequencing, and field conditions to keep projects on schedule.
  • Communicate regularly with the project team regarding contract drawings, RFIs, submittals, and any changes impacting scope, schedule, or quality.
  • Perform other duties as requested related to project planning, trade performance evaluation, close-out documentation, and post-occupancy service.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial construction experience, with a strong focus on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • 5 years of experience in mechanical, electrical engineering or civil engineering, or closely related field.
  • Prior field experience in plumbing and heating, including hands-on work with heating systems and related trades.
  • Strong understanding of heating systems, boiler systems, and building mechanical systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction trades and commercial construction practices, including general contracting and construction supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret floor plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Proficiency with computer and smartphone applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, Google tools, Gmail, Whats App, and MS Excel.
  • Experience with Bluebeam or similar software for drawing review and markups.
  • Technical experience with control systems in boiler, chiller, and HVAC industries, including building automation systems.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with customers, employees, subcontractors, and project management teams.
  • Ability to organize, manage, and maintain project documentation such as SDS/MSDS, OSHA logs, submittals, RFIs, and timesheets.
