Lunch Monitor
The Lunch Monitor is responsible for providing a safe, orderly, and positive environment for elementary students during lunch periods and recess. This position supervises students in the cafeteria, on the playground, and in other assigned areas while promoting appropriate behavior, ensuring student safety, and supporting school expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Supervise students during lunch in the cafeteria and during recess on the playground.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful environment by enforcing school rules and expectations.
- Monitor student behavior and encourage positive interactions and good sportsmanship.
- Assist students as needed during lunch, including opening food containers and addressing minor concerns.
- Circulate throughout assigned areas to ensure continuous supervision of all students.
- Respond promptly to accidents, injuries, conflicts, or behavioral concerns, following school procedures.
- Report disciplinary issues, injuries, or safety concerns to the appropriate administrator or school nurse.
- Ensure students transition safely and efficiently between the cafeteria, playground, and classrooms.
- Monitor playground equipment and report any hazards or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Encourage inclusion, cooperation, and respectful behavior among students.
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness in the cafeteria by encouraging students to dispose of trash and clean their eating areas.
- Assist students with seating, opening food containers, and addressing minor needs as appropriate.
- Encourage good table manners, respectful interactions, and responsible cleanup.
- Follow all district policies, emergency procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and supportive relationship with students and staff.
- Model appropriate behavior, language, and professionalism at all times.
- Follow district policies, school procedures, and emergency protocols.
- Communicate concerns regarding student safety, behavior, or well-being to the appropriate school personnel.
- Attend required meetings and training sessions as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
- Work is performed indoors in the cafeteria and outdoors on the playground.
- Requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, and active supervision of students.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions during outdoor recess supervision.
- May occasionally lift or assist with items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to walk, stand, and actively supervise students for the duration of assigned shifts.
- Ability to communicate clearly with students and staff.
- Sufficient mobility to respond quickly to emergencies and supervise playground activities.
This position plays an important role in fostering a safe, respectful, and enjoyable lunch and recess experience while supporting the school's commitment to student well-being and positive behavior.
