Physical Education Teacher
The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive physical education program for students in Pre-K through Grade 6, including students with disabilities. The teacher promotes physical fitness, motor skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyle habits while creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Minimum Qualifications- Master's degree from an accredited institution.
- Valid New York State Physical Education Certification.
- Minimum of 12 semester hours of teacher preparation in Physical Education.
- Preferred:
One to three years of successful teaching experience.
- Plan and deliver standards-based physical education instruction for students in Pre-K through Grade 6.
- Develop students' gross motor skills, perceptual motor skills, physical fitness, movement concepts, and sports and game skills.
- Differentiate instruction and modify activities to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including students with disabilities.
- Create a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment that promotes participation and healthy lifestyles.
- Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback to support student growth.
- Monitor student progress and participation.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records related to attendance, assessments, and student performance.
- Foster positive student behavior and reinforce appropriate sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, teachers, administrators, and related service providers regarding student progress and behavioral observations.
- Participate in parent conferences and multidisciplinary meetings as appropriate.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and other staff to support student success.
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development, workshops, and required in-service training.
- Stay current with best practices, instructional strategies, and New York State Physical Education standards.
- Provide input regarding curriculum development, instructional practices, and school initiatives.
- Maintain and organize physical education equipment and instructional materials.
- Monitor equipment inventory and recommend replacement or purchase of supplies as needed.
- Ensure safe use of facilities and equipment and maintain compliance with district safety procedures.
- Knowledge of child growth and motor development.
- Understanding of adapted physical education practices and instructional modifications.
- Strong classroom and behavior management skills.
- Ability to motivate students with varying physical abilities and learning needs.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and administrators.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student wellness.
