Teaching Assistant Position

Teaching Assistants provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher.

Certification required, Pre-Professional or Continuing Teacher Assistant Certificates.

Responsibilities include:

• Helping teachers prepare lesson plans
• Setting up necessary material for classes
• Tracking student attendance and class schedules
• Reviewing material taught in class with individual students with learning challenges
• Working with smaller groups of students for remedial teaching or reinforcing the learning process
• Escorting and supervising students in field trips and school activities
• Ensuring classrooms are safe and tidy before classes start
• Assisting teachers with various tasks, like grading assignments and informing parents of their children's progress
• Helping students adjust, learn and socialize and reporting to teachers about possible behavioral issues

Requirements and skills include:

• Experience as a Teacher Assistant
• Familiarity with school administrative tasks and learning methods
• Great communication and organizational skills
• Cool-tempered and positive attitude
• Firm but kind personality
• A love for teaching and the ability to build a trusting relationship with students, teachers and parents
• College or associate's degree is preferred

Reports to Building Principal, responsible to the Special Education Supervisor, and the Director of Special Education.
