Mount Vernon, Ohio Emergency Medicine Physician Locum Tenens Opportunity
~25K Annual ED Visits
• 17-Bed ED
• 12-Hour Shifts
• 22 Hours of Daily APP Coverage

Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking Emergency Medicine Physicians for locum tenens coverage in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

This opportunity offers a strong community Emergency Medicine model: approximately 25,000 annual ED visits, a 17-bed Emergency Department, consistent 12-hour physician shifts, and 22 hours of NP/PA coverage every day.

The opportunity is open not only to EM-trained physicians, but also qualified Family Medicine and Internal Medicine physicians, providing multiple pathways into this community ED practice.

Opportunity Highlights

  • Approximately 25,000 annual ED visits
  • 17-bed Emergency Department
  • 115-bed community hospital
  • Moderate-acuity Emergency Medicine
  • Adult and pediatric patient population
  • 12-hour physician shifts
  • 24 hours of physician coverage daily
  • 22 hours of NP/PA coverage daily
  • Moderate sedation
  • EM, FM and IM training pathways considered

Schedule & Coverage Model

Physicians work a consistent 12-hour shift structure within a heavily supported coverage model.

Current shift structure:

  • 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
  • 7:00 PM–7:00 AM

Daily coverage:

  • 24 hours of physician coverage
  • 22 hours of NP/PA coverage

That near-around-the-clock APP presence provides meaningful clinical support throughout the majority of both physician shifts.

Emergency Medicine Practice

Physicians will provide broad-spectrum Emergency Medicine within a moderate-acuity community hospital environment.

The Emergency Department cares for adult and pediatric patients and is supported by hospital services including intensive care, OB/GYN, laboratory, radiology and other medical and surgical resources.

The hospital is also actively expanding and renovating its Emergency Department to increase treatment capacity and improve patient flow.

Clinical scope includes:

  • Emergency evaluation and stabilization
  • Adult and pediatric Emergency Medicine
  • Moderate-acuity presentations
  • Moderate sedation
  • Collaboration with NP/PA clinicians
  • Physician supervision responsibilities as applicable to the coverage model

Physician Requirements

  • MD or DO
  • Residency trained in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in EM, FM or IM
  • Active, unrestricted Ohio medical license
  • Active DEA with required Ohio prescribing schedules
  • NRP
  • FM/IM physicians: ACLS, PALS and ATLS required
  • EM-boarded physicians: exempt from ACLS, PALS and ATLS requirements
  • Ability to provide previous 2 years of case logs
  • Seasonal influenza vaccination required

There is no minimum experience requirement specified by the current requisition.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Exceptional APP Coverage: With 22 NP/PA coverage hours every day, physicians work within a strongly supported community ED model.
  • Consistent 12-Hour Structure: Straightforward 7A–7P and 7P–7A physician shifts provide clearly defined coverage windows.
  • Manageable Community ED Volume: Approximately 25K annual visits across 17 ED beds creates a meaningful Emergency Medicine practice without major metropolitan ED volume.
  • Multiple Training Pathways: The opportunity considers appropriately qualified EM, FM and IM physicians, rather than restricting coverage exclusively to residency-trained Emergency Medicine physicians.
