The University seeks a full-time, 9-month, Laboratory Technician for its department of Biology and Physical Sciences on the Mount Vernon main campus. The position reports to the Biology and Physical Sciences Department Chair and is available beginning in

August, upon appointment of a successful candidate. A full complement of benefits is provided including a health care plan, retirement plan, and tuition assistance (for self and dependents). The candidate will also receive generous holidays, vacation, and sick time earned on an accrual basis.

• Assisting faculty with the preparation of laboratories for biology students
• Providing direct laboratory assistance to students taking biology courses
• Grading student laboratory reports and quizzes /li>
• Proctoring quizzes and exams for biology courses
• Providing student help sessions for biology courses
• Media and culture preparation for microbiology
• Maintenance of Microbiology stocks
• General biology instrument maintenance
• Assisting in coordinating the work of student laboratory assistants
• Other duties as assigned

• Evangelical Christian statement of faith and active involvement in a local church fellowship
• Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or related discipline
• General laboratory skills and understanding of and commitment to laboratory safety
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel)
• Experience working with undergraduate students
• Demonstrated attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy
• Ability to communicate in a positive and productive manner with faculty and students
