Job Responsibilities
- Assesses and evaluates nursing and medical needs of institutionalized patients, initiates and directs nursing care plans, observes and records patient behavior, condition, and response to medication and treatments.
- Coordinates clinical and medical appointments and provides professional nursing care (administrates medications and treatments, assists with physical examinations, takes and records vital signs).
- Assists in feeding and grooming patients when needed, provides patient and family teaching, and responds to emergencies.
- Directs delivery of psychiatric and nursing care by lower-level staff, monitors medication administration and documentation, and assists in orienting and training new nursing service employees.
- Prepares and reviews records and reports (incidents, restraints, nursing plans, shift reports, admissions and discharges), updates care plans, transcribes and verifies physicians' orders, and writes treatment plans and nursing summaries.
- Knowledge of professional nursing procedures, psychiatric or developmental disability nursing.
- Experience with employee training and development, and familiarity with state and federal regulations, policies, and procedures related to nursing.
- Skill in operation of medical equipment.
- Ability to write meaningful, concise, accurate reports; demonstrates physical fitness.
- Experience supervising LPN medication administration and staff oversight.
