Position: Psychiatric/DD Nurse Full Time 15 % Recruitment Supplement & 10% Supplement for 2nd Shift

Responsibilities

  • Assess & evaluate nursing & medical needs of institutionalized patients; initiate & direct implementation of nursing care plan; observe, evaluate & record patient behavior, condition & response to medication, treatments & therapeutic activities; coordinate clinical & medical appointments; provide professional nursing care—including administering medications & treatments as ordered by physician; assisting with physical examinations; taking & recording vital signs; assisting in feeding & grooming patients;

    responsible for patient/family teaching & responding to emergencies.
  • Direct delivery & evaluate psychiatric and nursing care performed by lower‑level staff (LPNs, hospital aides, therapeutic program workers); monitor LPN medication administration, documentation, patient care & medical equipment operation; assist in orienting & training new nursing services employees.
  • Prepare & review records & reports (incidents, restraints/seclusions, nursing care plans, shift reports, transfers, admissions & discharges); update nursing care plans; transcribe & verify doctors' orders; write & review treatment plans & nursing summaries; serve as interdisciplinary treatment team member; attend seminars, meetings & conferences; conduct & participate in in‑service training sessions/programs.
  • Major Worker Characteristics: Knowledge of professional nursing procedures; psychiatric or developmentally disabled nursing; employee training & development; state & federal regulations, policies & procedures related to nursing; public relations; counseling.
  • Skill in operating medical equipment; ability to handle abstract and concrete variables; write meaningful, concise & accurate reports; demonstrate physical fitness.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with a current license to practice in the state; valid CPR/Basic Life Support certification; experience in psychiatric or developmental disability nursing preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment & documentation skills; ability to manage medication administration and track patient progress.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills; ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Physical ability to perform duties such as patient transfer, feeding, grooming, and emergency response as required.
