Overview

Responsibilities
  • Cashier/Checker is responsible for being visible and actively greeting, engaging and assisting customers.
  • Process customer transactions quickly, accurately, and efficiently at the check lane.
  • Understand the Point of Sale (POS) system and handle various tenders (Cash, Checks, Credit, Debit, SNAP EBT, Offline SNAP EBT, WIC, Rain checks, complex loyalty offers, coupons) and checkout procedures per company policy.
  • Adhere to company limits on cash shortages/overages and work to control loss.
  • Understand and follow guidelines on restricted sale items (Alcohol, Tobacco, DVDs).
  • Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
  • Follow policies for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons; stay current with present and upcoming ads.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Support safety programs by complying with procedures and identifying unsafe conditions or issues and notifying management.
  • Inspect equipment and notify appropriate department or store management of repairs needed.
  • Create a welcoming environment and assist customers regarding products sold within the department and store.
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal laws and company guidelines.
  • Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment; manage conflicts in a calm and cooperative manner.
  • Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information; follow directions and seek assistance to resolve issues.
  • Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
  • Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications Minimum Position Qualifications

  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, subtraction)
