Education Administration Intern

Part-Time, Summer

Background:

The Education and Guest Services Division provides meaningful learning opportunities for Mount Vernon's one million annual onsite visitors and students in classrooms around the country. Through a diverse portfolio of interpretive experiences, engaging programs, and online resources, we expand each learner's understanding of, and appreciation for, George Washington and the revolutionary world in which he lived.

Compensation:

The salary for this position is $15/hour

Expected

Hours:

approx. 32 hours per week from May to August.

During the summer of 2026, there will be two interns in the Education Administration department reporting to the Vice President for Education. These interns will share responsibilities for evaluating and documenting exhibit experiences and assessing guest experiences onsite. They will work together to create community-building experiences for other Mount Vernon interns. Shared responsibilities may include:

* One-on-one interviews with youth visitors

* Observational study of visitor flow in the new George Washington: A Revolutionary Life exhibition

* Transferring exhibit copy files into a word-processing format

In addition, interns will each have independent projects to bring to completion. Sample projects include:

* Analysis of data from GWTI 250 teacher workshops

* Support for testing and development of intergenerational programs and tours for the revitalized Hands-On-History and Education Center space

Qualifications and Desired

Experience:

* Pursuing an Bachelor's or Master's degree in education, public history, museum studies, museum education, history, or a related field.

* Familiarity with data research, measurement, and evaluation

* Excellent writing and editing skills

* Ability to work and collaborate creatively and effectively as a member of a team

* Experience or interest in museum evaluation and/or museum exhibitions

Special Requirements :

* The successful candidate will be available for some weekend responsibilities
